Top 10 Tools & Accessories for Towable RV Travel
Top 10 Tools & Accessories for Towable RV Travel
Gear for safe towing, convenient camping, and happy pets!
By: Becca & Brian Roy
If you’ve read any of our previous articles about traveling with an electric vehicle and towable RV, you may have noticed that we are all about innovation and technology especially when it comes to safety, efficiency, and entertainment.
We look for tools that make us more efficient while also allowing us a degree of comfort that you may not otherwise find while camping. We also bring our furry family members with us on every trip and their safety and comfort is paramount.
Here are our top ten items that make our travels in our Winnebago Micro Minnie even more enjoyable:
1. Weigh-Safe Trailer Hitch
For peace of mind when towing, a trailer hitch that includes a weight gauge ensures the safety of your rig during your many adventures.
2. Trailer Valet RVR5
This is our favorite tool when stowing our camper. With over 5,000 pounds of towing capacity, you’re able to maneuver your camper in and out of spaces that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to drop it with a vehicle.
3. Hayes Sway Master Electronic Sway Control
While this device isn’t for everyone, we want to tow as safely and efficiently as possible. In lieu of mechanical sway control, we use the GPS and gyroscopic controls of the Hayes Electronic Sway Control which automatically applies pressure to the brakes if sway is detected.
4. Whistle GPS Pet Tracker
When traveling to and from the campsite, we rely on Whistle for those worst-case scenario situations. This tool provides cellular and GPS tracking for your furry friends.
5. Waggle Pet Monitoring
Once we arrive at the campsite, Waggle enables us to safely leave our furry CAMPanions inside. Waggle monitors temperature and interruptions in power and alerts us based on our pre-set preferences.
6. Auxiliary Water Tank & Pump
When you want to stay at your boondocking site just a little longer, some extra water makes it possible. Coupled with the Milwaukee transfer pump, we can quickly transfer the water to our on-board water tank and spend more time exploring!
7. BioBidet
We were very pleased with our upgraded Dometic toilet, but what really made our bathroom experience a delight was the addition of the bidet attachment! We saw a 75% reduction in toilet paper use making our cleanouts that much easier and quicker.
8. Macerator
While we have the luxury of securely storing our towable at home, we aren’t able to access our septic tank with a traditional black tank hose due to the distance. A macerator enables us to emulsify the contents and send it through a garden hose up to 150 ft away, easily reaching our septic system.
9. Celestron Nexstar 8SE Telescope
Where better to use a telescope than at a campsite with low light pollution?! Although this isn’t a must-have item, it is a great addition to our setup.
10. Solo Stove Yukon
Always one to enjoy a campfire but, at the same time trying to be courteous to our neighbors in those tight campsites, we bring along our smokeless Solo Stove as well!
We hope this list helps improve your RVing experience. What are your go-to items for improving your travels? Please share in the comments!
