Behind the Scenes of Winnebago’s FLX Package – Featuring the Micro Minnie FLX!
Learn about this great option for towable owners wanting to spend more time off grid.

By: GoLife Staff

If you are a travel trailer owner, you may be familiar with Winnebago’s Brand Ambassador Robert Morales (also known as Traveling Robert). His YouTube videos are a huge hit with the RVing community, especially those who also travel in a towable.

You may have noticed that Traveling Robert recently upgraded to a Micro Minnie FLX, but did you know he helped inspire Winnebago’s FLX package?

Inspiration Behind the Winnebago FLX Package

Throughout his multiple years as a Winnebago Ambassador, Robert’s way of traveling eventually transitioned to include more boondocking. This meant upgrades were needed to his Micro Minnie for better off-grid capabilities.

His feedback as well as field testing in a prototype helped to create the FLX package which includes more efficient appliances and high-tech power systems.

In this video, Robert travels to Middlebury, Indiana, to speak to Adam Christopherson, Senior General Manager of Winnebago Towables, about the story behind the Micro Minnie FLX travel trailer.

Note: The FLX package is currently available in Winnebago's Micro Minnie and HIKE 100 travel trailers.

Detailed Tour of the Micro Minnie FLX & a Look Behind-the-Scenes

After his important part in the creation of the Micro Minnie FLX, Traveling Robert was thrilled to move into one of his own! So far, he is enjoying the multiple storage areas as well as the large sink in the kitchen along with the window above and a counter extension. (Fun Fact: He is a passionate RV cook!)

While Traveling Robert’s model is currently one of a kind, Winnebago’s Micro Minnie FLX has multiple floorplans available. Each unit is equipped with a FLX package which includes two 200-watt solar panels, a 320-amp-hour Lithionics lithium-ion battery, 3,000-watt pure sine wave inverter, Truma AquaGo Comfort+ water heater, and VarioHeat furnace. These technologies can support off-grid camping for up to five days!

Watch this video for a full tour of Traveling Robert’s Micro Minnie FLX and get a special behind-the-scenes look at the factory where Winnebago’s travel trailers are built.

The Micro Minnie FLX 1720FB is a smaller, more minimalistic trailer than what Traveling Robert was RVing in before. However, the timing was right for downsizing since he had big plans to travel all the way to Alaska in his new trailer! See how the trip is going so far on his YouTube channel

Robert’s fair and honest reviews of the Winnebago product is great to see. As a Winnebago ambassador he doesn’t hold back his comments and offers honest opinions that hopefully will be used to make improvements to Winnebago Towables in the future. We purchased a new 2023 Winnebago Micro Minnie 1800BH this year after owning three Winnebago Class C motorhomes, two of which we purchased new. The last was an higher end View 24J. Our Micro Minnie doesn’t offer the FLX package unless you move to the slide model 2100BH. Not that we can’t do the upgrades on our own, but the factory option would have been nice on our non-slide BH model. We absolutely love our Micro Minnie more than our motorhomes! The fit and finish work is as we expected. Finally it seems that customer feedback has led to a modern, bright interior with tasteful, appealing fabrics and durable surfaces. We have not had problems in the three months we have owned other than the holding tank level monitor never working. Thanks Winnebago Towables!

Traveling Robert’s videos are a huge hit with those of us who are not yet part of the RVing community too. His videos inspire my husband & me to want to try it. We found his YouTube videos in 2020. So nice to be “on the road”, albeit only virtually, and look forward to trying it for real.

Traveling Robert is honest in his reviews and as genuine in person as he is in person. He is the reason we purchased a Winnebago Micro-Minnie and follow his travels. His videos are very much worth watching, for ideas, great stop over sites and how to enjoy the adventures.
