As Ambassadors for Winnebago’s HIKE 100 lineup, we’ve had the pleasure of using two different floorplans of the 1316 series. Our initial towable was the 1316SB floorplan, then we recently switched to the 1316MB floorplan. In this article, we will compare the two for anyone trying to pick between these great options.
The Winnebago HIKE 100 1316SB and the Winnebago HIKE 100 1316MB are both designed for outdoor adventurers who want a compact, rugged travel trailer. Though both models share a similar base, each has unique layouts and features tailored to different camping and lifestyle preferences. The primary differences between the 1316SB and 1316MB can be seen in their floorplans, sleeping arrangements, and storage options.

Differences in the Winnebago HIKE 100 1316SB & 1316MB Floorplans
The bed setup really sets these two floorplans apart. The 1316SB model is laid out with a single bed design, which stows against the ceiling of the unit until you are ready to lower it for sleeping. The 1316MB features a murphy bed that folds to the back portion of the unit when not in use. This layout difference affects how much floor space you’ll have.
The 1316SB’s stowaway bed allows for more floorspace when the bed is not in use, making it a better option for those who value flexibility and open floorspace during the day. The 1316MB’s layout, on the other hand, is more straightforward, with a bed converting to a “love seat” couch and not really changing the floorspace from one configuration to the other. Both sleeping areas offer immediate convenience for travelers to fold out or lower their bed every night. This creates more of a multi-use area in a compact travel trailer.

In terms of sleeping arrangements, the 1316MB is better suited for solo travelers or couples due to only having one bed option. The Murphy bed setup in the 1316MB model provides a comfortable, permanent place to sleep without any real adjustments, which can be convenient for campers who want a bed that’s practically always ready.
The 1316SB is better suited for solo travelers, couples or families who don’t mind a more compact sleeping area. The 1316SB has a bed that maximizes space during the day and converts into a sleeping area at night. The seating area can also covert into sleeping space, allowing additional room for kids or adults. This flexibility is ideal for campers who may need extra seating or living space during the day without sacrificing comfort at night.

Comparing Storage in the Winnebago HIKE 100 1316SB & 1316MB
Storage options vary between these two models as well. The 1316MB generally has more built-in storage areas around the bed and a more defined storage layout. This makes it suitable for campers who need a more traditional storage setup.

The 1316SB, with its stowaway bed and foldaway bench seats, offers additional storage possibilities creating more of a “toy or gear hauler” setup during travel. This model would appeal to outdoor enthusiasts who need to store larger items during the day, as the stowaway bed allows them to keep the area open.

What Both Winnebago HIKE 100 Floorplans Offer
Both models are similar in their construction and durability. Winnebago has designed the HIKE 100 series to be compact yet durable, with rugged exteriors that handle various terrains well. Both the 1316SB and 1316MB come with BAL Independent Suspension, Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires, and steel frame construction, making them suitable for rougher terrain than standard travel trailers. However, their compact sizes make them maneuverable, even on tighter trails, which is an appealing feature for campers who frequent more challenging outdoor destinations.

Another similarity between these two models is the kitchen and bathroom facilities. Both the 1316SB and 1316MB come with a compact yet functional kitchenette, complete with a convection microwave, sink, and refrigerator. The bathrooms in both models are also well-designed for small spaces, with a wet bath setup that combines the shower and toilet area. This layout is practical for campers who want all essential amenities but don’t need a full-sized bathroom.
On our current model (1316MB), we removed the bathroom sink and changed out the standard faucet for a thermostatic RV shower faucet. This is an option for others who want to create additional space within the wet bath, giving your shower experience more room to move around.
Climate control options in both the 1316SB and 1316MB are also aligned. Each model includes air conditioning and a heating system to ensure comfort in different weather conditions. This feature is important for campers who travel year-round and need to be prepared for a variety of climates. Both models also have adequate ventilation, with windows and vents strategically placed to ensure fresh air flow.

Both models also come equipped with ample power options, including 200W solar panel and “solar on the side” capability for adding additional portable solar panels. This feature is crucial for campers who may spend extended periods off the grid. The power systems in both the 1316SB and 1316MB are designed to support the needs of modern campers, including USB ports, 120V outlets, and options for additional battery power. This setup allows both models to accommodate various tech gadgets, which can be essential for remote work or entertainment.

The overall weight and towing capacity requirements are also similar, with both the 1316SB and 1316MB being lightweight enough to be towed by most SUVs or pickups. This feature is a key selling point, as it makes the Winnebago HIKE 100 series accessible to a broader range of vehicle owners. Additionally, both models feature similar ground clearance and hitch height, making them easy to tow on various road conditions and surfaces.
Aesthetically, both models offer a rugged look with modern interior finishes. The exteriors of both the 1316SB and 1316MB have an exoskeleton around the entire rig and rock guard around the lower portion, with a matte black finish and stylish accents, enhancing their appeal for outdoor enthusiasts who want a stylish, functional trailer. Inside, both models have streamlined, minimalistic interiors, with wood accents and neutral tones that give a cozy, yet modern feel.
