Learn the Basics of RV Air Conditioners
Watch a beginner video tutorial on RV A/Cs.

If you are just getting into RVing or are considering a new RV air conditioner, this is a great beginner resource to learn the basics of RV air conditioning - there is more to know than you may think!

This video by James and Stef Adinaro of The Fit RV shares what you need to keep in mind when powering your RV air conditioner, as well as an explanation of RV A/C capacity ratings (and what BTUs per hour means!). Using their Winnebago EKKO, as well as multiple other Winnebago RV examples (including the Winnebago View, Winnebago Minnie travel trailer, and Winnebago Travato) they show the different RV A/C options and how they work.

James also shares insights into different RV air conditioning brands, efficiency ratings, the difference between ducted and non-ducted A/Cs, noise considerations, and air conditioner control options (like the integrated controls available with the Winnebago Connect!).

If you have questions after watching the video, please head over to this page on The Fit RV's website to join the discussion! And if you need a refresher on how RV power works, be sure to watch this educational video.

Other Tips for Staying Cool in Your RV

Running your air conditioner is the best way to cool down your RV quickly. However, if you don't have enough power to run your A/C, there are some other tricks for keeping your RV cool when camping in warmer weather. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Try to camp at a higher elevation or a shaded location.
  • Consider investing in cooling sheets.
  • Keep window blinds closed to block sunlight from heating up your space.
  • Cook outside to avoid adding additional heat indoors.

Plus, read more insights in this article from the Holcombes on how they beat the heat when traveling in their Winnebago Revel in extra-hot weather. Be sure to also browse this list of summer gear must-haves from a Winnebago Travato owner who loves to embrace summer fun (and weather)!

I have a 2016 Winnebago Vista 27n. The heat pump does not do well in southern Louisiana in the summer with high heat and humidity. There is a ceiling fan in the master bedroom. Is it possible to add say a 13,000 btu heat pump or smaller in its place? Even if I had to plug it into shore power separately, it would be a big help. My main concern is the weight.
