Along with the new, upgraded Winnebago Revel, Winnebago also recently introduced the Revel Sport. Both are part of Winnebago's Backcountry Series and include features with enhanced off-road and off-grid capabilities. They both also have a power-lift bed, an indoor/outdoor galley, swivel cab seats, a versatile wet bath, and ample gear storage.

The primary differences between the Winnebago Revel and Winnebago Revel Sport are in the exterior accessories, interior design, and power systems. In the video below, Winnebago Product Manager Chris Bienert goes through a deep-dive comparison of the camper van features which are also outlined in this article.

Winnebago Revel & Winnebago Revel Sport Overview

All Winnebago Revels are designed as gear-hauling adventure vans. They are made to be durable and easy to clean, with features like countertop-grade laminate on tables and cabinets. Components are also made to be stable and practical for accessing outdoor gear. Since it is meant for going off-road, cabinets and hatches latch so that they stay closed to keep your items secure on rough roads.

Both are built on the 144-inch wheelbase, 2500 all-wheel-drive Mercedes Benz chassis. It is highly capable in off-road and on-road situations. It is also well-equipped with safety and driver-assist features, including adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera system for maneuvering into tight places. The new models also have heated seats for both the driver and passenger side as well as a digital rearview mirror.

Both the Winnebago Revel and Revel Sport have the Mercedes steel wheels with an option for a wheel and tire package that adds a 12-mm offset to each with Revel-branded BF Goodrich all-terrain tires.

The exterior color options are the same for both the Winnebago Revel and Revel Sport, with RAPTOR® Tough guard and protective coating available. However, the Winnebago Revel has an additional exterior graphics package with a mountain motif available.

Exterior Design Differences

The Winnebago Revel Sport has the traditional Revel running board with a rubber surface for traction, a pet leash tie-down, and lighting underneath. It also has a removable ladder on the rear door that can be moved anywhere on the driver’s side of the van. The whole rack is modular, so it can accommodate various accessories and gear. It has an option for a rack-mounted awning as well.

The new Winnebago Revel running boards are a welded tubular design that are a little bit wider, adding four inches of width to the van. The roof rack is very similar to the Winnebago Revel Sport, but it has additional side plates with slots and places to strap down gear. It also has a new front fairing that includes LED lights. The Winnebago Revel has a fixed-mount ladder style that is made of welded aluminum.

Interior Design Differences

Upon first look, the Winnebago Revel and Winnebago Revel Sport may appear the same inside, but there are a few differences and upgraded features to keep in mind.

Lounge & Galley

The Winnebago Revel Sport lounge sitting area has a pedestal table and two seats at the dinette, with one lap belt and one three-point seatbelt. In the indoor/outdoor galley, there is an adjustable fold-down table for cooking outside and a portable induction cooktop is also included. The refrigerator can be accessed inside or outside of the van and there is a countertop extension available as well as plenty of storage—including a pantry and spice rack.

The Winnebago Revel has an adjustable mounted table instead of the pedestal table and two three-point seatbelts at the dinette seats. Both seats also have the ability to move forward and recline, plus the inboard seat can slide to create more elbow room for passengers.

The cabinets above the dinette also have an upgraded compression-style latch to keep the doors from rattling when going down the road. It has three interior color options (the Winnebago Revel Sport only has one), with the Overlander Interior Package having an upgrade option for insulated window coverings and removable floor mats.

The outdoor cooking area in the Winnebago Revel is very similar to the Revel Sport, but the induction cooktop storage drawer above the refrigerator also houses a cutting board that doubles as a counter extender. The galley does not have the pantry, but it gains a longer counter for food preparation. The compression latches are also used in the kitchen drawers of the Winnebago Revel, and it has an upgraded faucet with pull-out sprayer as well.

Bathroom & Bedroom

The bathroom is similar in both Winnebago Revels and is designed as a multi-use space, so you can use it as a storage closet or a wet bath. This makes it ideal for storing wet gear since it has a drain. Both camper vans also have a five-gallon cassette toilet.

The doors for the wet bath storage area in the Winnebago Revel do open differently than in the Winnebago Revel Sport, with side-hinged doors instead of bifold. A mirror and privacy shield have also been added for additional convenience.

The Revels use a diesel-fired hydronic heating system that is adjusted with a digital control panel. However, the system is more sophisticated in the Winnebago Revel and allows for control of multiple heating zones individually.

Each camper van offers 79-inches of sleeping space when the power-lift bed is in the down position. However, the Winnebago Revel has the addition of a roll-down curtain to separate the bedroom area, block out light, and help run the air conditioner more efficiently. The WinnSleep mattress in the Winnebago Revel is also thicker and reversible to offer a choice between a firmer or softer option.

Gear Garage

In the Winnebago Revel Sport, the gear garage floor is 46x56 inches and includes D-rings to help secure items, as well as bungee pockets and a storage net up above. The Winnebago Revel has 37x56 inches of floor space, but it has a much larger storage cubby and an L-track adjustable system for tying down cargo.

Winnebago knows that Revel owners enjoy customizing the gear garage for their purposes, and these features will help you get started with making this area of the van work for you!

l suggest that a foldable bench and table should be added under the lift bed in the garage, where at bedding time those bench and table can be converted into another bed while in daytime it is still a multifunctional area.
